You have kind of rocked my world here and I'm not an artist. (OK, I knit a single strand of yarn into things like sweaters and socks - kind of art-y but that's neither here nor there.) The idea of possessing my own "invisible museum" - curated over 69 years - is revelatory. It makes sense, now that your have articulated this truth, that we all have one. You have dropped this fully formed into my brain and I can see it so clearly. And it's delightful and beautiful and makes me emotional.

This is so great. I think as a teen who really liked art and wanted to be an interesting artist, I felt inhibited by having not yet developed some amalgamation of unique curiosities/experiences/curated favorite things, the museum you describe. You’re still learning who you are. I remember feeling very frustrated by that. Revisiting fine art after university and 10+ years of a design career, and simply, life, I’m realizing how filled in my museum has become. I’ve just been unearthing gems hidden in a closet and hanging them on a wall so it’s easier to see. This post is a really helpful framing for me, thank you!

Probably the best explanation of style.

I love this. I’m a quilter and a watercolor artist, and both influenced the infographics I created for my business. Curiosity is the key to originality.

I love this! “Here’s how I think about it. You’re building an invisible museum, and you’ve been adding to it your whole life without knowing it.”
